Question:
The instructions say 'fill hydrometer test cup' is this an additional thing I was supposed to buy?
Answer: The test cup is a tall narrow metal tube that you can use to drop the hydrometer and measure the viscosity of the syrup. It is recommended, but you can use something else as long as it can handle high heat. -
Question:
What's the brix or density range on them?
Answer: A hydrometer is not necessary but it takes the guesswork out of when the syrup is done cooking. If you use temperature instead, cook it until it's 7 degrees above the boiling point of water in your area. Syrup should ideally be cooked until it's 66 degrees brix or 66% sugar.
