The Linux Field Manual (LFM) has mixed reviews from customers. Many found it to be an excellent reference book to have on hand in case they need to troubleshoot a Linux OS problem while others found it to be a random brain dump of information with low-resolution images and not as organized as other similar books such as the Linux pocketbook. It was noted that the book does not have much of the expected material nor does it cover all the inner workings of Linux. However, it does provide quick access to Linux commands and explains some of the Linux foundation concepts. It is described as being a reference book that is not meant for learning about Linux but rather as a quick guide. Some customers found the book to be cheaply reproduced with information that is mostly available on man pages. The use of 'ifconfig' instead of 'ip' was a pet peeve for some. One customer from Brazil was disappointed with the book's lack of quality content instructive material but stated they would buy other field manuals from the same publisher. Overall, LFM seems ideal for someone who needs a quick reference guide to Linux commands but not as a complete guide for learning about Linux.
